Every year Universities got ranked in India, based on the yearly performance put forth by the particular University. MHRD i.e., “Ministry of Human Resource Development” launched a framework or a method by the name National Institutional Ranking Framework i.e., “NIRF” on 29 September 2015.

NIRF ranks universities based on the data acquired throughout the year. Then the collected data is processed according to the parameters set by the framework. Parameters like TLR, RPC, GO, OI, PR.

For the past 4 years (2017-2020) IIS Bengaluru (Public Research Uni.) has been on rank 1 in the NIRF university ranking. From the support of Jamsetji Tata, this university was established in the year 1909. It is a coed university.

JNU (Public) is been consistent in holding the second spot in the NIRF university ranking from 2017 to 2020. During the sessions of 1st September 1965 and 16th November 1966 both Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha passed the JNU bill to establish the university.

So, as a result of an act of parliament JNU came into existence in the year 1969. The university was named in honor of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru India’s first prime minister.

There are 12 schools operating around the campus of JNU with over 599 academic staff. A total of around 44 courses are offered by the university. 34 post-graduate courses and 10 undergraduate courses are being offered currently by the university.

From 2017 to 2020 BHU (Public) has been acquiring the 3rd spot in the NIRF university ranking without skipping a single year.

BHU was established in the year 1916 by the efforts of Madan Mohan Malaviya, Annie Besant, Rameshwar Singh, Sunder Lal. It was established after the Imperial Legislative Council passed the Banaras Hindu University bill in the year 1915.

It was established in the year 1994 with an engineering college (Amrita school of engineering) and later developed in a full-blown university offering various UG & PG level courses in Commerce, Arts, & Science stream.

There are 7 campuses under the university of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham across 4 south Indian states operating 16 schools. Jadavpur University (Public) of Kolkata acquired the 5th spot in the latest 2020 NIRF university ranking list.

This university was established on 24th December 1955 by the joint efforts of NCE (National Council of Education) and the Government of West Bengal. The university offers various UG & PG courses in the field of engineering, arts, science, management, and law.

Jadavpur University offers around 25+ courses at the undergraduate level, post-graduate level, and Ph.D. level. Currently, 36 departments operating under the university and are providing all these courses.

The University of Hyderabad (Public) dropped 2 ranks down from the 4th spot (in 2019 rankings) and acquired the 6th spot in the 2020 university ranking by NIRF.

On the basis of 1973’s Six-Point-Formula, “UoH i.e., University of Hyderabad” was founded in the year 1974. It is a public research university, that has a residential campus with over 5000+ students studying in different fields and around 400 faculty members. The university offers various foundation courses, diplomas, UG, PG diplomas, PG, M. Phil, M. Tech, and Ph.D. level courses.

 Residential Campus: – Where faculty members and students live in the college or university campus throughout their course duration, they share meals and stay organizes academic activities, etc. 

Around 12 schools operate under UoH with over 41 departments. These departments of the university provide around 97 courses in 11 streams.

This university is currently 164 years old established during British rule on the 24th of January 1857. It was one of the first western-style & multidisciplinary institutions in Asia. It offers certificate level, diploma level, UG level, PG level, and Ph.D. level courses.

It has over 60 departments divided into the faculties of education, commerce, arts, engineering & technology, home science, fine arts, social welfare, business management, science, law, and over 6 institute departments for agriculture. Around 150 courses are offered at the Calcutta University.

8)   Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal

In the year 2020 MAHE (Private & deemed to be University) has been placed on 8th rank in the NIRF university ranking list.

It was initially founded in the year 1953-1958 by Dr. T.M.A. Pai in the state of Karnataka. The current organization was formed back in the year 1993 when it got the affiliation from UGC. The university is also certified as ISO 14001:2004 organization. It is now recognized as one of deemed to be university. 

MAHE has three faculty domains that are operating 33 institutions;

For the past four years, this university is consistent on 9th or 10th rank. In 2020 the Savitribai Phule Pune University (Public) is on 9th in the latest NIRF university ranking.

Primarily named Pune University and was established on 10th February 1949. It was founded under the Pune University Act which was passed by the Bombay Legislature in the year 1948. Later, on 9th August 2014 in the honor of “Savitribai Phule”, it was renamed Savitribai Phule Pune University. Courses are offered at certificate, diploma, UG, PG, PG diploma, and Doctorate level.

The university was initially established in Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) on the 29th of October 1920 during British rule. Later in the year 1935, it was moved to its current place and got its deemed-to-be-university status in the year 1962. Further, it becomes the Central University on 26th of December 1988.

There are a total of 9 faculty domains present in Jamia;

Law, Fine Arts, Education, Social Science, Engineering & Technology, Architecture & Ekistics, Dentistry, Natural Science, Humanities & Languages.
